Emerald Brass Quintet

Since forming in 2006, the Emerald Brass Quintet has gained recognition as a dynamic and virtuosic collection of performers and educators. Established by graduate student colleagues at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, the EBQ has performed with the world-renowned Canadian Brass, has been a featured guest on WXXI 91.5's "Backstage Pass," has given recitals and masterclasses at Elmira College, MansīŦeld University, Utah State University, and the University of Missouri, and was a featured ensemble at the 2009 Brass in Frankenwald festival in Hof, Germany. Members of the EBQ are current faculty members at Utah State University, Colorado State University, University of Hawaii, Nazareth College, Greece Central Schools (NY), Castilleja Schools (CA), and the Punahou School (HI). As individuals, they have performed from the concert halls of Thailand and southeast Asia to Carnegie Hall and Jazz at Lincoln Center's Allen Room, and with the Cincinnati, Jacksonville, Madison, Honolulu, Rochester, Syracuse, and Opera San Jose Orchestras, among others.

Innovative programming

Emerald Brass members are equally as passionate performing music from the standard brass quintet repertoire to new works by 21st-century composers and improvising solos in arrangements by trombonist Chris Van Hof. The EBQ is committed to new music and to presenting programs for audiences that entertain and stimulate.  Audience interaction is a hallmark of an EBQ performance, and listeners should expect to travel from genre to genre in the hands of expert tour guides.

The 21st century brass quintet

Whether presenting an educational concert to third graders, working in a masterclass with college students, performing a formal concert series, or playing in a town gazebo for a summer festival, the Emerald Brass Quintet is committed to promoting outstanding music performance and music education. That means keeping the tradition of great chamber brass music alive while being ardent advocates for the myriad new possibilities in contemporary music.  The Emerald Brass Quintet is truly chamber brass with a twist!
